Physician Office Integration

The City of Lakes Family Health Team is now connected to the physician office integration (POI) program.

This program links our electronic medical record system (Telus Health PS Suite) with Health Science North’s Meditech system.

Whereas we previously had to wait weeks for hard copy hospital discharge reports and spent hours scanning them and entering data into our electronic medical record (EMR) systems; we can now access these reports electronically.

The new POI allows for the transmission of discharge summaries, lab and diagnostic imaging reports directly into our electronic medical record system. Physician Office Integration ensures the speedy delivery of hospital reports and does away with the labour intensive photocopying, faxing, scanning and re-keying of data by hospital staff and primary care providers.

This means that all of our family physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare providers will have immediate access to patient records produced by Health Sciences North. This will lead to quicker and more informed clinical decision making and, ultimately, better patient care.
